New World Man is a track from the 1982 album Signals by Rush. It is 3:43 in length and is a perennial fan favorite. Incidentally, the song was the last and quickest composed song on the album, stemming from a suggestion from then Rush producer Terry Brown. It remains Rush's only American Top 40 hit; peaking at #21 on the Billboard singles chart for three weeks in October and November of 1982. It also topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for two weeks (their first single to do so), and reached #42 in the UK; a remixed version released as a double A-side with "Countdown" later reached #36 in the UK in early 1983.
The song involves heavy use of guitar, synthesizer, and bass, especially near the middle of the song. The song essentially follows a standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus pattern in the absence of a guitar solo. why do people trash this band? Never understood. Amazing musical abiltiy, tight friendship, never heard of Geddy et all busted for hard drugs etc, insightful lyrics & a sense of fun too! The definiton of a BAND & class act for over 30 yrs. How many US ROCK bands can say that? btw am from US but always prefered UK Commonwealth rock over ours since bout '67. We can like who we like & still see the show can't we? Just my opinion but people who trash Rush are missin' out.
