Why do I always get involved with shows that get canceled prematurely? First Futurama (though that did have a decent run) then Firefly and now this. Excellent show, best one I've seen in a long time, actually. I'll be looking into the comic when it comes out.

I understand that they wanted to concentrate (and really inflate the power of "Mayor") on the political rivalry part of it, but in any sized town or city, a situation like this, the church people would have a HUGE presence in the relief effort. If churches did not manage to take care of a group of refugees, then the town is a cult, with the mayor at the head!

I wonder if any of the writers ever lived in a small town? Probably not after they turned 18!

IMO - about the closest to a model for "Johnston Green" would be the mayor of Fargo, ND (@100,000 people) Dennis Walaker. He was the public works director in 1997 and handled the Red River Valley flood. He was the go-to person for the flood fight and became a hero of sorts with the way it was handled. In 2006 he was elected mayor. In 2009 he again did a great job in making the right decisions and the city came through.

Lots of clips of him on youtube.
