I present yet another great Brazilian singer, the charismatic and much admired soprano Maria Lúcia Godoy (1929-), a soprano who specialized in interpreting the Brazilian folksongs by composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos and Waldemar Henrique and had a beautiful lyric voice and, above all, a gift to ally music and words to the most expressive effect. She was born in Mesquita, in the mountaineous state of Minas Gerais.
In this video you may hear four of the Amazonian songs composed or arranged by Waldemar Henrique. They are simple but unique melodies with much expressivity, which is perfectly captured by Godoy's sweet and charming interpretations. The songs are:
1) Uirapuru [0:00]
2) Mãe d'Água [1:37]
3) Cobra Grande [5:38]
4) Foi Boto Sinhá [7:53]
What an amazing find, thanks for sharing!
