  • an empty pride, a hopeless vanity, a dreadful arrogance, stupefyingly futile conceit, but at least it's something to hang on to.

  • I'd like to think I mowed down as many blacks as I did whites and the Koreans did very badly out of the whole deal.

  • ´...& also hear Sven from Swiss Cottage.

I used to listen to LBC´s problem phone-ins at night (we all did as schoolkids in the 80s) and there were so many nutters calling in that although I remember Sven, the lovelorn Scandinavian fisherman standed in Swiss Cottage, it was only years later when I read Cook´s biog that I realised it was him. True.

The funniest Cook story has to be his breaking into Robert Maxwell´s office. It is a stunner. It´s in the late Harry Thompson´s biog. Check it out.

  • A mate gave me a tape of this about 10 or 12 years ago (I was a huge fan of both of them but had no idea they´d done this, so I was over the moon to discover it) and lawks, does it live up to expectations.

As Harry Thompson said in his biog of Cook, Morris was one of the few comedians of the time disrespectful enough to have pulled it off.

This is genuine comedic genius. I´ve listened to these same recordings for almost 15 years now and they never get any less funny. How did Peter Cook do it??

  • I'm giggling like a fool listening to this. Lovely stuff.

  • @simonsomatic dear oh dear.

  • @kez1979 can someone explain that joke to me, never understood it. Cheers

  • That there are only some nine thousand comments is amazing. Cooke's satire should spread. See, in instance, his exchanges with Luodivc Kennedy - pure brilliance in MHOI & also hear Sven from Swiss Cottage.

  • Finally, the official funniest man who ever lived gets an interviewer worthy of his talents. This is the comedy version of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee jamming together in Sun Studios - two absolute titans of comedy bouncing off each other. Utterly timeless.

  • @farleigh17 He was aware, I believe, that his own death was near. You can hear this later on when he falters slightly after Morris chuckles and says "I've just had a vision of your death".

  • this is the best of the whole series, it's so god damn amazing.

  • @billyshitcheese

    Genius Genius Genius
