Three hundred years ago a small tribe of Indians called Tiguas, displaced by the violent Pueblo Revolt, settled near El Paso, Texas. This community of Pueblo Indians soon became engulfed and eventually overlooked in a landscape dominated by Anglo and Hispanic influences. People of the Sun: The Tiguas of Ysleta, a one-hour documentary, depicts their struggle for federal recognition during the 1960's and offers an in-depth look at the people they have become. Now an officially recognized tribe of more than 1,400 members, the Tiguas regulate their own affairs as a sovereign Indian nation and successfully preserve their ancient traditions despite tremendous societal changes. The Tiguas of Ysleta del Sur meet the challenge of maintaining the fine line between being contemporary Texans in El Paso and Pueblo Indians.

  • My mother is a pueblo Indian.... Maybe someday I can visit this place and learn about them, they certainly have a unique culture, especially compared to other Indian tribes.

  • isleta pueblo in the house lol

  • I am a desendent of Tigua Tribe and I am proud of my ancestors!

  • i was born and raised in ysleta del sur pueblo and i am very proud of me and my grandfather to bad that theirs still ignorant people out there.....................

  • @chukurulugai

Why did you steal their wealth then? Racist prick!

I have not stole from anyone maybe you have. At what point does enough time pass when groups of people can stop blaming others for their problems?

The Pueblo are a beautiful people but they can't sustain themselves by blaming others until the end of time. Most Indians have become part of the American population only about 5% of them still live in reservations.

  • Funny how people that steal the wealth from others, afterwards have the nerve to accuse poor minorities that they don't work hard to obtain a good life.

  • I love my Tigua Indians.

  • that Native American girl at 9:12 is sexy.

Pueblo people am coming to visit you lol
