The state is unable to balance its budget and wants to reduce compensation for state employees. In order to make this easier, they are changing the law which requires the state to negotiate with the union. The union is not happy about the possibility of getting paid less or being fired for not going to work (e.g. a strike). Unions around the country are afraid this will start happening in other states too, so they have flooded WI to protest.

@deckertone You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.  All major polls show massive public support for the unions and the Madison protesters. That's not arguable. It's just statistical fact. And yes... as voters there certainly IS something we can do about it.

The police officers should be very scared - they violated the protesters' Constitutional right to peaceful assembly. The protesters weren't hurting anyone, were they?

These police are now looking at charges for follwing illegal orders from higher up. The Sheriff is looking into it and seeing what level of BOOM he can press down ont hem. It's not going to be small.
