Hall of fame filly Dahlia easily outruns the boys over a mile and a half on the turf.

I seem to recall that Estrapade and Dahlia shared shedrows and both fillies suffered from the same malady - being unable to feed milk to their foals. They had the misfortune of watching their babies drink from another horse's teat. Still, it is hard to imagine a barn with two better fillies. I believe both horses had "FR" for France after their names in racing programs.

@ruffian72 Actually, Dahila retired as the sports all-time money-winning female at almost $2 million, I believe before Affirmed got to $2 million in 1979 the all-time money earner regardless of sex. Had she raced a bit longer, she and not Affirmed would have been the first to top $2 million.

Dahlia was yet another great horse from the 70's. A great decade for racing. I also have to say the jocks ride was perfect. I might be wrong here but she paved the way for female horses beating the boys in modern America. Used to be they could only do it on turf but we all know that has changed quite a bit since then. Great post CF and thanks again.

Thanks for uploading. Over five years, this lightly-built super filly with the V8 engine won G1's in five countries against top-class male rivals. Talk about consistency and domination. Still the only filly or mare to win two KG&QE Stks. Amazing stuff. No doubt about it, the 70's was the era when perfection of the bloodlines stamped its authority in world racing.

I remember this, I had such a hard time knowing who to root for I loved Dahlia, London Company (by Tom Rolfe), Key to the Kingdom (Bold Ruler-Key Bridge), Magazine (Prince John). But I always preferred the fillies, so I rooted for her.

What a GREAT mare. Gosh I remember her rivalry with her fellow Euro mare Allez France, who also regularly beat the boys. And now a three year old filly has won the Arc in 2008!
