Hey all, just wanted to show off my homebrew arcade cabinet.
The video is a quick cut just to get something up so it's very amateur and mostly just shows off games instead of the actual cabinet. But you'll get the idea :)
The cabinet was built from scratch using MDF over a stable two-piece frame.
It was built for authenticity, so all electronics are completely covered, with a locked service compartment and a commercial coin acceptor.
Power is turned on behind the cabinet through some custom electronics on a repurposed com-port card slot. When power is applied a PIC uses an IR diode to switch the TV to the correct channel.
The OS is a highly customized (graphically) Windows XP installation with it's shell exchanged for a custom menu system. The menu system is fully configurable to allow selecting and launching of games through a recursive structure.
Credits are transferred between games through the use of a hacked NeoGEO BIOS ROM and highscores are extracted for each game from the nvram file for display within the menu system.
Controllers are cheap USB gamepads that have been repurposed to connect to an array of professional arcade controllers from Suzo.
Coins are inserted at the top of the control console, right between the P1 & P2 start buttons.

@royvpreest I most definetely should, but this is one of those projects that never really get finished. I started it roughly 7 years ago now, and it wasn't until about two years ago it was even working. I will get it painted eventually :D

Nice! But maybe you should put some art work on it that would finisish it off nicely

@stets83 Not at all, look closer :) It's entirely custom built, but the design was taken from X-Arcade (both cabinet and controller, but with modifications). The controller deco is printed on A4-sized papers and glued onto MDF followed by black paint around the borders and several layers of clear coat. I have no idea why I didn't do a custom design at the time, but the paper is coming loose so it will be repainted by an airbrush artist whenever I feel like working on this age old project again.
