This is the beautiful poem by Robert Burns with its equally beguiling melody.

Vocals, guitar and keyboards by me and I was delighted to have backing vocals from my lovely wife Nicole....who knows, I may be able to persuade her to do a whole video herself in the future:)

It was recorded off-cam so there are only some photos as background. Several of them are from the flickr site of Nicholas Valentin at http://www.flickr.com/photos/adrian_valentin_murphy/sets/72157594299483596/
There are some stunning pictures of Scotland there and it is well worth a visit.

There is also a pic from our wedding two years ago:) Awwwwwww.

I am not Scottish but i did my level best with Burns' words and the auld scots dialect....I do hope I dont get a kicking re pronounciation from the traddies....they know who they are:)

lyrics are as follows:-

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever
Ae farewell, and then forever
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him
Me nae cheerful twinkle lights me,
Dark despair around benights me.

I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy:
Nothing could resist my Nancy
But to see her was to love her
Love but her, and love for ever.

Had we never loe'd sae kindly,
Had we never loe'd sae blindly,
Never met - nor never parted -
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.

Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest
Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest
Thine be ilka joy and treasure,
Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever
Ae farewell, alas, for ever
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

Enjoy:)

  • I beg your pardon David - after veiwing other video I see it's you and your good lady in wedding picture. Sorry! Your hair looked greyish - not a bad thing as I know - as my hair turned white in my 30s.

    Beautiful version of Burns classic.

  • This is so good I wonder why I haven't heard of you before I stumbled over this video. Great stuff indeed David. With this talent you must have cds out there?

Re the pic of bride: is the man not the father of the bride? Poignant whoever he is.

  • so beautiful

  • Buenas noches:)
