  • I generally agree with peters education argument, but doesn't tuition need to be a bit more expensive today because, for example, computers are more expensive than typewriters.

  • @string22

a computer today that can perform the same function as a typewriter and more may cost a couple hundred bucks, back before computers typewriters may have cost more than they do today, but computers also lower the cost of performing other task such as filing information, running payrolls, keeping track of finances etc computers are more efficient and lower cost overall otherwise colleges and other business looking to cut cost would ditch them and use typewriters

  • @mattgeb84

I was doubtful of this example myself, and as I said I agree with Schiffs argument. But there are other examples, such as research projects and research facilities, which are more expensive today. The students unions activities and responsibilities are more expensive today. University security is more expensive today. Maintaining university halls of residence is more expensive today.

  • @string22

cost of maintenance being more exspensive today can be explained by general inflation as when priced in dollars just about everything is more exspensive today, schiff isnt arguing that tuition should not have gone up at all he's saying it should not have gone up nearly as much as it has, it shouldn't have risen so much higher than the general rate of inflation is his argument

  • you would loose that bet, i was there and talking with the people in attendance long before schiff took stage, most everyone in attendance said they were there primarily to see schiff, and no most of them didn't come off as rich spoiled brats etc.

yes inflation is a big part of the problem I agree, part of the problem with the higher maintenance cost example is that halls of residence provide more basic features for students today than they used to. As I said originally I agree with schiffs argument that government hikes up the price, but tuition should be more expensive today for the reasons I have written.... up to a level where a degree would be unafordable for the poor without a loan?

  • @aviomaster Only 1 student in attendence was able to afford the tuition without a student loan. Watch this segment again and please stop applying stereotypes so much. Thank you.

  • They didn't listen when peter was telling everyone about the impending doom with the real estate bubble and in fact many of them laughed at him and they will not listen to him now. This guy is mocked by academia and so was Mises.

  • @aviomaster dude a rich kid could afford to go to that school without a loan. There was just 1 guy in the room who went to that school without a loan, so no rich kids in the room!

  • . I get my education for free. Thanks for the lecture mr. Schiff. I paid 50 cents in electricity for this one.
