Jelly Roll said in an interview in the 40s that Scott Joplin helped him compose parts of this piece. Joplin most likely wrote a basic melody with harmonic progressions, and Morton then rearranged and played it in his own special way.

@professor314 A "stomp" is a type of music; it doesn't necessarily mean the performer is doing any stomping.
