I have had these snakes for about a month or so. They are my first pet snakes. Here are some clips of them eating snub nose minnow. I treated the minnow for weeks to make sure they were disease free. I have a tank full of baby platy and guppy and as they grow I will feed them to the snakes. They also eat red and earth worms.

  • I put an earthworm in my garter snake tank and he hasnt eaten it after a day! :( I might get guppies tonight, but im not sure if my petco has feeder guppies, only minnows....

  • @brucedabetta

That is unusual. I suggest cutting the earthworm in half. See if that helps. Let us know

Oh wait is your snake brand new to you? I only ask because sometimes snakes don't eat until they are settled in and feeling safe. He won't starve or anything. I'd give it a few days before you try to feed him again.

  • Cute! I just got a baby garter and im gonna try feeding him minnows.

I recommend guppies instead. I found out minnow have something in them that depletes garters of an important thing they need called thiaminase. Without it they gradually get weak and sick over time. Also try leeches. They love leeches. Oh and earthworms too. Not red wigglers but earthworms/nightcrawlers. Good luck!

  • Cool video. I like it.

  • whaer can you buy minnows to feed it

  • eww soo cute how they eat minnows

  • where do you get the minnow?

  • The worm died so I took it out. I dont think cutting it in half would help. He just didnt have any interest in it. Im getting a pinky mouse today and im gonna cut it in half or a fourth and scent it then give it to him. I hope he eats it!
