The Anusham dance group did a splendid performance about the holy river ganges at YGP auditorium Chennai on 15th of February 2008. The drama brought out the theme of river ganges, its importance and the associated saints and gods with it ,a perfect combination of dance, drama, music, very good fusion of music and conversation, lighting and costumes. The activities in and around ganges is brought out very beautifully by this dance drama
To the Hindu-Indian people, the Ganges is more than just a river; it is a holy river. In Hindu religion and in mythology, the Ganges is a goddess, Ganga, daughter of the mountain god Himalaya. Ganga was the consort of all the gods until a human king, Bhagiratha, was permitted to bring her to Earth as the river Ganga. Bhagiratha's purpose was fulfilled when her sacred waters released the souls of the 60,000 sons of the king Sagara from their ashes. The 60,000 had been burned in wrath by the god Vishnu. The drama had the flow of the inner theme performed in great confidence and co-ordination.
This video clipping is just one of the glimpses of the whole dance drama. It explains about the mother ganga....
