  • @57worldwide In all, nobody cares anymore.

  • @mxc82 You called Sugarhill Gang 'the pioneers of rap music'. It's not true. Rapper's Delight was an influential song, but Sugarhill Gang was formed by the owners of Sugar Hill Records. That's why I compared them to the Sex Pistols. They were influential in bringing this music into the mainstream, but at the end of the day, they were a record label product. The label could be called a pioneer (as major labels do the same thing nowadays).

    I'm not a know-it-all. I just know what I'm talking about.

  • @57worldwide Who died and made you mr. knowitall of the music industry?

  • @mxc82 'In 1995, Rhino Records purchased all the released and unreleased masters'

They were originally on Sugar Hill Records (when all the songs you mentioned were recorded and first released). You can't suggest that I 'do some more research' and then state something which is incorrect (and easily found to be so if some research is done).

It's irrelevant what label they were on. As though them not being on Sugar Hill Records would mean they were true rap music pioneers?

  • @57worldwide They were under rhino records. Their song rapper's delight was in 1979.

  • @mxc82 My point was that Sugarhill Gang were not pioneers. They were a product of their label. Sugar Hill Records was a pioneer of mainstream rap music, Sugarhill Gang were not.

Like I said, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five would deserve a shout, they were pioneers.

  • @57worldwide You never heard of jump on it either? They played that a couple of times on fresh prince of bel-air. Maybe you should do some more research.

  • @mxc82 Regardless of wether you talk about hip hop or rap, Sugarhill Gang are not true pioneers. They are pioneers in the sense the Sex Pistols were pioneers of punk music.

The Sugarhill label has an influence, but Sugarhill Gang were created by the label. What happened to them after Rapper's Delight?

  • @57worldwide Hip-hop and rap are two different genres. That's like saying rock and metal are the same kind of music. It's not. They are literally in the same category, but not exactly the "same piece of music".

  • @mxc82 Sugarhill weren't really the pioneers of hip hop. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five deserve a shout, not really sugarhill.
