Free Szabolcs!

The WWII has finished in Hungary with the secession of the Russian Red Army in 1990. The 46 years occupation and collaboration ruined the country and inhabitants. The massive cultural, intellectual and mental demolition led to economic collapse. The collaborator clique shared his political power a little bit, but saved his full economic power and don't changed anything. The system stayed same: unfit, corrupt and irresponsible. The visible and sensible progresses which started from the past, continuous in the present and tend toward to the future aren't promising for the residents. No wonder that there are ones who want break away from this, at that so they don't go away.

Szabolcs- Szatmár- Bereg is the most eastern county of Hungary. The history so happened that its territory share Hungary, Romania and Ukraine today. Nyíregyháza is the county town in Hungary. Here organized on 1996 the Free Szabolcs Terror Zone (F.SZ.T.Z) that takes the fight with its special devices against the Hungarian political, economic and cultural oppression. The F.SZ.T.Z. members are workers, teachers, and artists. Their aim is territorial autonomy of the county. The recordings give introspection in the secret life of the group. The film makers are the members of F.SZ.T.Z.

There is a maybe no known notion in the film: pálinka. It is a special Hungarian brandy from fruits (apple, pear, prune etc.) The county is famous land of distillers.




The film was performed on the International Guerrilla Video Festival in Milan, 2008.
