Most pet stores sell them in a small container with less than 1/2 liter (1/2quart). They are more comfortable in small spaces. People make comments without really knowing what they are talking about. It happens. Then someone comes along and tries to straighten them out. Thanks :-)

vary random story... my grandmom did all the wrong things... she got a BIG tank with like 3 betas in it TOGETHER... and she put in bamboo..... they died a few weeks later... :|

Beta's prefer small spaces and are insecure in large spaces.

He trained himself, we just tipped his container so the water was at the rim, gave the edge a little tap and he took care of the rest. He does it every time we change his water and never jumps out until he is in position.
