A girl sits in your chair
She smiles like warm, sweet tea
She speaks her need, your expertise
Your kindness and your touch

Flowing hair like Vintage Silk
Fragile brocade
Wheat, gold and grief
A little frayed on edges
little fear of result
It's a young lifetime
It's a young lifetime

The man she said she called her love
showed her the sear of a leather hand
And left the mark of woman
battered lost and broken

She wore her hair to hide her marks
And I cut her hair and watched it fall.
I cut her hair and watched it fall.

Flowing hair like Vintage Silk
Fragile brocade
Wheat, gold and grief.
A little 'fraid on edges
she has no fear of assault
It's a young lifetime
It's a young lifetime

  • Hey I just saw this on the website for Canadian Idol. I said it there and will again here.. this gave me chills. You're a rare find in that you can actually sing. Your voice is pure and feeling radiates from each word sung. I hope you make it, all the best to you. Either way, I'll look for your CD.

  • Thank you so much ElleNaturelle.

    :)

Your comments mean a lot to me.

    Thank you!!

  • It's a great song, beautifully performed (nice guitar playing!). But your lyrics say "comfort" in the first stanza, while you sing "kindness." Which one do you prefer?

  • Thank you!

You're completely right! I remember writing it with comfort, but then everytime I sing it the word "kindness" automatically comes out. I can't help it. I'll edit my lyrics to reflect that. Sometimes songs have a life of their own and I have to honor that.

    Have a great day!

    Opal

  • nice song

  • People like you should be famous, not fags like Justin Beiber with no talent. I hope to see you in the media. You'll be discovered.

  • where can i buy this song? love it. sort of a ben harper-ishness to it...

  • I wish I could pay a better compliment cause you deserve the best, but all I can think of when I watch this is you inspire me.

  • you are fantastic, I am so happy that I ran across your beautiful voice. May God bless you on your journey.

  • I love this song so much, Opie. All of your songs are brilliant, but this one is so beautiful. Remember me when you're the Canadian Ani Difranco. ;)

  • I absolutely LOVE this song.

  • I Love this song and i heard it the first time from your video on the CI site...i thought it was so amazing...really good...in my opinion, you didn't get the call because you are WAY too god for CI! =] A-m-a-z-i-n-g! Keep up th great work!

  • Me too, I find myself singing this song all the time. You are incredible and I watched CI just to see you as I was so sure you would be at the top! What a loss for ci. i have a hard time to watch it now when I see that talent that they picked over you. ticks me off! Please stay with it, you have an amazing talent!!!

  • Yep, you're better than the entire top 10 of idol.
