John Safran discovers that famous atheist Richard Dawkins recommends Star Trek philosophy as a substitute for religion. So John rambles off to Los Angeles to spend time with some Trekkies. His interest is further aroused when he discovers that Star Trek philosophy embraces cross cultural love. John celebrates in the belief that Star Trek will finally allow him to pursue his Eurasian fancy, but his bubble is burst by ex-girlfriend Michelle telling him that he is embarrassing himself.

Why does it require faith to be an atheist? An atheist simply don't accept the unproved claimed that there is a god. It's like not accepting a claim that unicorns exist until they can prove it, that would be an aunicornist. We don't have to prove a negative, it's impossible to prove non-existense of something that has never been proven to exist in the first place. The burden of proof is on the one making the claim of existence.

that's true, but his circle of friends and spiritual advisors have  been trying to shame him away from intermarriage. his friend, for instance, said he would sever his ties to john if he married a shiksha. it's almost as if his community has given john an ultimatum: "marry a jew, or forsake your kind and face castigation." What I love about Judaism is the emphasis placed on choice and free will.... ....

The fact is, is that we can choose who we are if we recognize our own innate ability to change - to become more than our original cultural and religious backgrounds. Take for instance a person who grew up a catholic who now embraces secularism. This person simply has said no to their natural programming, while John continues to waffle between self-delusion , self-destruction and sexual distortion. Just because he feels attracted to Eurasion women doesn't mean he needs to surrender his culture.

John Safran marry someone. LOL! His South American girlfriend Loreena left him because of his immaturity and ineptitude, and he has gone through quite a number of airhead, bimbo girlfriends . The problem with John is not only his immaturity, but his self-absorbed narcissism. John only cares about John and no one else. Also, he has not had a stable, long term relationship since Loreena. John will need to someday actually make it big and earn serious money if he wants to settle down with a wife.
