I think because that is the original style of dancing the melbourne shuffle, the running man has made it more of a hard, stomping dance along with the type of music! if It was mereley just normal trance I think people would stomp alot less and glide more.

why do all the young shufflers take such big steps? there's too much "stomping". The shuffle was originally about looking like you were gliding, hench the Phaties to cover your shoes. The guy at the 4:50 mark is the best by far. He doesn't look like he's trying too hard!
