Martin DCX1E: http://bit.ly/oatJv3

My review of the brand-new Martin DCX1E that I just bought from Guitar Center in Nashville, TN. To sum it up: I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!! It's got the Martin "boom" projection I always wanted and plays so smoothly. Sounds incredible.

Used an ordinary $10 Radio Shack 33-3026 lapel condenser mic for the sound. Was able to replace the camera audio and sync it up. There's a little lag at the end of the video between the audio and video. Don't know what happened there.

This is my first attempt at a video with the audio replaced.

The sound does something weird around 2:10 but disappears at 2:32. It happens later on when the lag begins. Again, don't quite know what happened.

Songs played in order:
He Will Set Your Fields On Fire
The Last Thing On My Mind
Cumberland River
Everything else is just improv.

Sorry about the mic boom covering my fingers.

Please excuse my voice. Have been down with a chest/head cold. Finally recovered from it.

  • Brilliant video, it helped me a lot picking my new guitar. I went for the dxc1e in the end, and believe me, I tried everything in that price range. Some hardcore guitar gurus like to tell you to buy a "real guitar" made of real wood, but the thing is, this one actually sounds way better than those. It has the growly Martin sound and that fantastic Martin scent too :) Try it for yourself!

PS: what's that tune you're playing? I'd love to learn how to play it.

Glad you liked the DCX1E. I tried various other guitars, Martin & Taylor included, in the same price range and higher prices, and nothing else could sway me. I even tried this guitar and another that was the exact same model and this one won out. Amazing how two of the same guitars by the same company can sound so unique.

I'll need a minute marker reference regarding which song; I was playing several. I'd be glad to do a lesson on whichever one it is. Thanks for the comment.

  • @sword6204

It's the one starting at 1:20. I love that tune, and I would be grateful if you could do a lesson on it.

What kind of strings do you use? Right now I have gauge 12 Martin PB-s, but I've always used D'Addarios on my other guitar. I have yet to try this one with those.

  • @wearereflected

That is a song by Bill Monroe entitled "He Will Set Your Fields On Fire." It's a very fun melody to play. Will work on getting a lesson uploaded as soon as I can.

I use both Elixir Phosphor Bronze and Martin Lifespan Phosphor Bronze strings. Both Medium gauge. They are the best in my opinion.

  • I most certainly suggest this guitar for starting out. For one thing, you won't need to buy another one for a very long time if you take care of it. And for another, in the long run the cost is totally worth it (about $600--$700 new). Plus, if you buy it new, Martin offers a lifetime warranty. If it's not in your budget, you could always try and get a used one on Craigslist or golsn.com. Been playing almost 20 years now. Thanks for the compliments! See info section for a link to the DCX1E.

  • Getting mine for christmas :)

  • @ryutheman8 You will LOVE it! Congrats on getting an awesome guitar for an awesome price. What store are you getting it from?

  • What acoustic would you suggest for starting out? Reading reviews and watched lots of YouTube, all kind of overwhelming. I haven't gone to guitarcenter yet. You wouldn't suggest the one your playing on would you? How long you been playing b/c you great skills?

  • @sword6204 got mine for $599! only because they sold another guitar by accident that i had on hold! :) But i got it from a local family owned business here in Arizona called Milanos.

  • @NikMetalEx Thanks so much! You should definitely get this unless you can afford a higher quality Martin. For entry level affordable Martins I'll recommend this one time and again. Still loving mine after just over a year of playing it. The tone gets sweeter every time I pick it up! Don't pass it up :) Check out the description of the video for a link I've included to where you can purchase it online from my favorite online Music Store.
