Chengdu J-20 Black Eagle (or "Firefang") is one of China's many 5th-generation stealth fighters (the others being J-17, J-18, J-19, and J-21).

Most professional analysts agree that the J-20's performance is superior to that of the Sukhoi T-50 and on par with that of the F-22 Raptor.

The J-20 information has been mostly classified, but here is what we can see from the prototype:
- DSI intakes
- nose for AESA radar
- delta configuration
- canards
- full-moving stabilizers
- larger internal weapons bay than F-22 and T-50
- large internal fuel tank
- one piece cockpit

The J-20 is heavier and carries more payload and fuel than the F-22 Raptor and the Sukhoi T-50 PAK FA.

The Chengdu J-20 will make its first flight in January 2011 and will enter service in 2015.

China also has four other stealth fighters (J-17, J-18, J-19, and J-21) in development, and also including a stealthy JF-17 and stealthy JH-7B. JH-7B made its maiden flight in December 2010. That makes 7 stealthy projects in total.

COMPARABLE AIRCRAFT:
- F/A-XX
- F-22 Raptor
- J-17
- Sukhoi PAK FA T-50
- J-18
- F-35 Lightning II
- Xian JH-7B
- J-19
- J-21

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser

13 feet does not make a huge impact on the RCS

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser I don't have to "proof" anything. I really don't give a shit what some random idiot thinks.

  • @OlderG0ds

proof it. plus stealth shape won't work against AESAs because AESAs send out radio waves in all directions at the same time

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser And just because you say it isn't, doesn't make it so. Especially when providing ZERO facts to support your claim.

Yes I do think it's stealth, so does everyone else in the world, and probably for a reason.

  • @OlderG0ds

you think F-22 is stealth at all? the US won't even ever send it into combat less it embarasses itself. just because Lockheed says F-22 is stealth doesn't make it so.

  • @segregator236

4.1 meters is quite a bit more than a few feet.

  • @OlderG0ds

The aircraft is only a couple feet longer than the F-22. And yet, the plane uses RAM, plasma stealth technology (the F-22 doesn't use this), as well as DSI intakes.

Its extensive application of stealth shaping, coatings, and stealth technologies make it stealthy.

A new type of alloy was also developed in China, and it will be applied to the J-20

  • @OlderG0ds

Conventional canards reflect radar (as proven on the Eurofighter and J-10). But these canards, along with all other parts, use extensive radar absorbent material as well as plasma stealth technology (the F-22 and F-35 don't have this)

Engine nozzles ARE made for stealth. First of all, the prototype aircraft engines are not the same as the production aircraft engines. The prototype uses stealth nozzles (hence the tiles) while the production J-20 will probably use diamond-shaped

  • @segregator236 Canards? Pretty much guaranteed radar reflection and compromise of stealth with that alone.

Engine nozzles I don't care how much RAM it has, it's not made for stealth. The best way to track a stealth aircraft is by infrared. It's IR signature is going to light up like a christmas tree.

And the overall size of the aircraft isn't helping.

  • @OlderG0ds

They just climbed on a fence.

In fact, there's a bench just for people wanting to take a look at the J-20.
