Here's a set of tunes played in DADGAD on the guitar. The first is the Turlough O'Carolan waltz Sí beag, Sí Mhór then I go into two jigs: Blarney Pilgrim and Merrily Kiss the Quaker.

The first and second tunes are modifications of arrangements in the Celtic book of the Guitar Atlas series by David Ernst. The third tune I picked up from carefully watching a video of the playing of the amazing Pierre Bensusan here on YouTube.

Obviously I haven't played it too well (bit too fast), but in time I might get better and look back on this to see how far I have got (hopefully).

  • very good!

    which guitar do you use?

  • @micallo58 Thanks for the comment. The guitar is a Takamine EG-560C.

  • Lovely rendition of these beautiful airs ~~~ Title for first one is "Sí beag, Sí Mhór" --translates "she's small, she's big."

  • Thanks Mike. I'll update the spelling of the air. I got the current spelling from the book I learnt it from, so I guess they spelled it wrong too... it is a Canadian book after all.

  • I never knew that's what it meant! thanks!

  • So, I have been learning Si beag, Si Mhor with the piper in our band recently, and I looked up what it means. Although I've not found a definitive answer, the consensus is that it means "Little Fairy, Big Fairy", referring to two hills. It's sometimes known as Fairy Mounds for that reason.

  • Nice work. Maybe see you at "Not Mells" in September. I'm planning on heading down. A great weekend by all accounts.

  • Great playing ! Excellent choice of tunes as well; they're all among my favourites. Merrily...is maybe my favourite jig of them all, and I'm still trying to find a TAB for it.

    Top job, thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    Jim
