Think Wily Wars or Castlevania Bloodlines. They don't use PCM samples but percussion made from FM.

I'm not saying that your covers are bad, just the drums. They seem too hard-hitting in some of the songs. I'm pretty sure the huge OPM collection has an FM snare you can use, or just make your own snare voice. That's what I love about FM synthesis. There can be a million variations on what sounds closest to a simple instrument
