Ten boxes containing more than 39,000 signed petitions and letters to Mayor Rob Ford urging him to not close any Toronto Public Library branches or privatize library operations were delivered during Toronto Public Library Workers Union President Maureen O'Reilly's deputation to the Executive Committee.

I was in the room during her presentation (directly behind to the right) and I can confirm the mood turned very intense between 3:00 to 4:45. We were all running the risk of being thrown out (or having the entire meeting prematurely terminated) but it didn't matter. This happened around 1: 30 in the morning, so tensions were already high as in the room as many were exhausted after having sat in the stuffy space for over 14 hours watching the mayor ignore one deputation after another.

Our refusal to stop clapping and chanting seems to be the single moment Mayor Ford genuinely reacts during the entire 22 hour meeting.

The petitions were garnered from the http://OurPublicLibrary.to. Check it out and support our libraries.

Thanks.

  • Rob Ford's manner of conduct is just repulsive.

  • You can see the slime dripping off of Mammoliti. What a lapdog shill. I was there. The executive council was appalling in their arrogance, disdain, and disregard for all of the public that were present and that spoke.

  • what a failure of a mayor!

  • Isn't it curious how Rob Ford is a dumb fuck and he hates reading books. I also find it curious that he is a fat fuck and hates riding bicycles.

  • Somebody kick that pig's ass!

  • i guess thats what happens when your mayor is just barely a high school graduate and nothing else. still trying to figure out how this douche became mayor of such a great city.

  • Shame on you, "Mayor" Ford. I'm ASHAMED to have you represent the city Toronto. You are a pompous disgrace and an embarrassment to all of Canada. Shame, shame, shame!!!

  • Wow, I'm surprised at Rob Ford response because it was quite unprofessional and he had bad leadership by observing how he controls the crowd. Thank you for representing us citizens! =D

  • My favourite part was when Councillor Mihevc later asked Rob Ford to pronounce his name correctly, but Ford was unable too.

  • I am SO PROUD to be a Torontonian right now!!!

  • Grand statement. I have put a link to this at the American Library Association, Union Library Workers community:

and linked it to the Union Library Workers blog.

There is Power in a Union. We are with you--
