I came across the words in a poem at school many years ago. Then, in the 1960s, I found a recording of Ray and Archie Fisher performing it as as song to this tune. It also appears in a book edited by Alisdair Clair: '100 Folk Songs and New Songs'. The tune is credited as Breton in origin. I am grateful to my friend Yves for directing me to 'An Alarc'h' (The Swan) - possibly the origin of this smashing tune. Was it wise to finish my rendition with that triumphant major flourish?!
Excellent indeed.
Till now I only heard it accompanied by guitar but this instrument you use is more fitfull to the mood of the song.

Thank you.
Interestingly, I was only showing off with the concertina. Normally I sing it unaccompanied!
