I had a few people mention why the outside profile cut wasn't as clean as it should've been. I cut this spacer plate as a test and had good results. Cutting at 24k RPM, 30 IPM with a .125 single flute carbide endmill. Finish pass was 0.01

  • OK so I am really REALLY new at this cnc stuff BUT what would be wrong with milling the whole thing .002 bigger than it should be then on the last pass after it is all cut out taking a ,002 cut in the correct path with a small mount of spray lube?

    Just Asking.

  • @bigdodgeaus Nothing would be wrong. The last cut for each feature in this video is a .010 finish pass. I'm using air to keep things cool and remove the chips. The spray lube would make it even better. I'll move to spray once I put a new table on the CNC.

  • Hi Mark ?

I think that’s your first name.I believe I mentioned the CLIMB milling idea to you. I’m not sure if you did it but the last cut should be a couple of thousandths to get the best finish. Also a little lubrication would help. The conventional lubrication for cutting aluminum is kerosene. I use WD40. It works as well but without the smell.

BTW I have a YT on cutting aluminum with the use of WD40.

  • @trainman4602 Names David. The final pass was 0.010 no lube. I have some misters coming and am looking to replace the MDF table so the machine will be lube friendly. Thanks again for pointing this out.

  • I liked the magic trick where all the screws appeared at once! That was neat....

  • @BuickDoc For my next trick......

  • Looks good! how is the air for cooling? Is cooled air enough? Or would a mister setup work better?

  • @radioshack7 David,

Try 91% Alcohol from the drugstore coming out an airbrush, in a VERY small amount, it evaporates and no chips stick, this will also allow double sided hold down tape, instead of clamps. Oh and try milling at 18K rpm, .005" step down at 70IPM. Leave about .002-.003" thou left at the bottom and all the parts will click out when down, no screws needed, no clamps to hit, and no chips to stick :)

After you pop it out, debur with a deburring tool. I have done this method with 1"

  • Hey, by the way, I wrote a new piece of software that you may be interested in.... I'll send you a copy when its finished, check out my lastest video.

  • @radioshack7 Cant wait to see that new table top.... I've been saving so I can put an 8020 deck on mine... I'm still learning new things watching your videos. THANKS AGAIN!

  • Sorry Dave That's my name as well I don't no were I got Mark from Dave is a better name anyway LOL The mister should help with the finish.

  • Thanks for sharing!

a side note: Anyone able to source these Aluminium plates in Europe (Preferably Germany/Denmark) at decent price?

  • @radioshack7 I asked, because I was using negative rake cutters in my mill and the stock kept sticking to the tip of the cutter. I tried air but it didnt help I added lube and lo and behold, beautiful.

    Thanks for the answer.

    Mark
