The Hollies (along with The Rolling Stones and The Searchers) are among the few British rock groups who have never officially "broken up" and continue to perform today. Allan Clarke and Graham Nash were two of the early mainstays of the group, and "Bus Stop" was their first Top 10 hit in the U.S. peaking at #5 in August of 1966. The song was composed by Graham Gouldman (later with 10cc).

  • @TheDavidjoy Although the British found a way to "outlaw" pirate radio ships in 1967, the measure became so controversial that BBC Radio ended up having to launch it's own round-the-clock top-40 network (BBC Radio 1) later that year.

At the same time, people in U.S. cities like New York (WABC and WMCA), Los Angeles (KRLA and KHJ), Boston (WBZ, WMEX, and starting in 1967, WRKO), Philadelphia (WIBG and WFIL) and San Francisco (KFRC and KYA), among others, had two top-40 stations.

  • @TheDavidjoy Haha i like your comment. I'm from the netherlands and i'm well aware of the pirate radio ships. I liked that movie too, ''The boat that rocked''

  • @NagoDagoe I was in Britain, the Americans had great music stations, when I refer to the Pirate ships.

  • @NagoDagoe my friend it was an awsome time, everything was changing in society and music. I was 13 in 1961 and it just got better. It helped with the start of pirate radio ships out at sea which broadcast none stop pop. Until then there was little pop on the land radio.

Yes I just wish I could go back, but the advance of medicine and other things I suppose would not make it the best idea, if possible. Anyway through the music here you can get a great flavour of the time. Enjoy!

  • This is why I love the music from the sixties , wish I was from back then

  • Great quality...!

    Thanks for that!

  • The song was composed by Graham Gouldman (later with 10cc).Great to see him sing this, on bbc singers & songwriters, recently!

  • At 59 this brings back some great memories.

  • Cool tune. Love the harmonies and story telling.
