For a project I needed to know how long a Canon IXUS 100is (SD780) would last on a single battery charge.

The IXUS 100is is a very small digital point and shoot and can be reprogrammed using CHDK, an alternative Canon firmware. I reprogrammed the IXUS to take a picture every 15 seconds from my three guinea pigs in my garden.

The camera took about 1500 pictures in just over 6 hours before the battery died. Well done little Canon!

  • Did you use a script for this? if so which one?

If the options are in the CHDK menu by default can you tell me where they are?

  • @andrewcp I used a script for this. Scripts can be found on the CHDK website. Just use any intervalometer script and change it to your likings.

  • @RoelKroes how do u know it took 6 hours to kill the battery? [unless u were monitoring the whole thing?..which i believe u didnt :]

  • @eladbari Well, you look at the time the first picture was taken, then you look at the time the last picture was taken, you subtract the two...and...voila!

  • @RoelKroes lol, voila indeed :] i must say i Totally forgot about this, since having your time & date appear on the bottom corner of your photos is sucha amaturish 90's kinda thing :] ..i didnt remember this info could be stored without appearing on the image :] ..p.s-ur good at maths :D

  • Taking a picture every 15 secs w/ CHDK, my Canon A610 lasts over 10 hours... too many pictures for my 2gb SD card to handle D:

  • @RoelKroes I mean Ultra. not Ultimate.

  • @RoelKroes Thanks for the reply. I've been playing with the Ultimate Intervalometer Script.
