Actor and playwright Wallace Shawn discusses how he finds pathos in the political and personal challenges of everyday life. His book Essays challenges us to look at our own behavior in an honest light. He also talks about "My Dinner with Andre," which he co-wrote with Andre Gregory, being released on DVD by the Criterion Collection.

  • I fuking love this guys voice!!!

  • I love his plays. I was lucky to see him in "The Fever." Now, I'm much too poor to see him live, but that's not important. I can watch him on YouTube and listen to him on NPR and read his essays and books from the library. Kisses to him always.

  • NPR interviews, My Dinner With Andre interviews, Louis Malle interviews... all on youtube with Wallace Shawn!!

  • Seeing people respond to Wallace with Princess Bride cliches is just as annoying as people who only know Peter Cook for "Mawage" - both Cook and Shawn were/are brilliant writers vastly under appreciated.

  • Rex/Bertram!

  • "and the cookie is in no position to know about it!"

  • SCRAPS!

  • i came when he said "scraps". such an ear pricking voice

  • I own a copy of "Essays," and must say that, while being a fan of Shawn, I don't find the essays to be in "Essays" all that illuminating - certainly not to the extent that Shawn appears to feel they are. He reminds me of Charles Bernstein's take on his own Political Poetics.

  • @elizabethfaraone Yes, he's great. "The Fever" is one intense play. I can only imagine what it must have been like live. My sis and a friend saw him perform it in NYC, too, and he before the performance had graciously invited people up onto the stage for wine and conversation. Yes so great to find him on YouTube and NPR.

  • And the Leonard Lopate show is always wonderful......one of the few programs worth listening to on a regular basis........
