Today I'm reviewing the Electro Faustus EF102.
What's that?
It's a PHOTO THEREMIN!

It has a large photo electric eye thingy (how technical is that description?) that reacts to light or the lack there of. That sends the unit into a weird glitchy theremin sounding noise making fun fest! (say that 4 times fast).

In the review I have it connected to a DOD FX94 Delay/Sampler (using only the delay function) and BOSS SYB-5 Bass Synth Pedal.

  • @barfumer

Thank you for your deep and insightful and thought provoking comment.

It warms the cockles of my heart knowing that you took the time to post.

  • the electric eye thing is called a 'photocell'.

  • As you can tell i'm not well versed on all those technical terms.

Heck up until a year ago I was calling movies..."flickers". :D

    I kid i kid ... heh.

  • would it be hard to drill for an input jack and footswitch 3pdt for this, cause that would be awesome, just wire up 3pdt same as mini toggle, and wire hot of input jack right into hot of output jack, right

  • @sseh2661 Because Jimmy Page uses a theramin from time to time.

  • @sseh2661 He was making a comparescent because of the the Theremin !!!

  • Very Fascinating !!!

  • how dose doing that make you feel like jimmy page

  • Thanks for posting this review. I am considering buying the EF 102 and I wanted to hear someone play arounf with one first.

I do soundtrack/soundscape for live performance, so I am not always looking for a musical instrumet per say. This looks like a an inexpensive way to add somesound coloring to a bed of effected loops.

Not sure why people would get angry about this device, it literally costs one tenth of an actual theremin (yes you can build one for much cheaper) and it looks fun.

    cheers

  • @barfumer And yet you sat and watched the whole video and posted a shitty comment. You're retarded.

  • your an idiot learn how to use it right

  • imagine this thing with an octave pedal....ooh I have to get one! and an octave pedal!

  • @cuadradonecro they sell for $60 new! i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it on their website

    electrofaustus(dot)com

  • doood i have that X) so cool

  • i will buy it on ebay, but tell me how did you put vertical the cigarette on the ashtray!!!!!!!

  • Movies? Oh, you mean "talkies" or "picture shows"

  • I'm going to maplin tomorrow, i'll buy the parts. build one and put a video up before the new year..

  • hey just wondering, the arpeggiator-esque sort of thing that goes on around the 4 minute mark...is that due to the delay as well as the synth? OR is it just the synth pedal?

  • whats this used for besides just to play with? im thinking on electro terms here....

  • how much its this one?

  • I got the EF101 last week and havn't really had much of a chance to play with it unfortunately, this one looks like another winner though - I'm definitely going to get one. A cool trick with this I can think of would be to drive a strong LED from some other audio input :-)
