I think the second chord in the chorus could be G instead of Dm (A w/o the capo)...I don't have the original music sheets but when I watched/listened to his live performances it seems like it.

You play it just like him. I'm still learning how to get that strumming pattern down. Any suggestions?

Fortunately the strumming pattern is pretty repetitive--so once you get it, you've got it. My thumb is hitting the single bass notes and my four fingers are doing a down-up, up-down-up pattern between those single bass notes.
