Taken aboard NW18 (HKG-NRT). Service was reassigned to a DC-10 due to low passenger level during the SARS outbreak. This one is for ALL DC-10 who love the engine spool up sound ;)

  • the first airplane ride i took was 10 years ago in a american airlines dc 10, i will never forgot the rocket like take off

  • psychologically I feel better having three engines crossing the Pacific Ocean

  • was this kai tak?

  • @sketchyinc

Ah yes, with all the huge pwr widebodies plying the regional and domestic hops nowadays and all. LOL

  • @ImmortalSynn More power to you then, I will stick with the bigger more powerful planes when possible when I book my next trip!

  • @sketchyinc

I happily ride them whenever possible... love the 2x3 seating availability. Try again. ;)

  • @ImmortalSynn Then you can ride it for me, I will search for more luxurious equipment!

"cheap feel like a HYUNDAI of the skys."

Get with the times... a Hyundai has won MotoTrend Car of the Year (and Car&Driver) more than any model of Toyota or Honda COMBINED, throughout the last decade.

MD80s may not have been original, but they've been the reliable workhorse of many an airline... which one one reason they're still around and plying the skies, and will be for at least another decade.

  • The sound of those DC-10 engines spooling up I will never forget as a flight attendant- that big muscle plane is missed dearly! Thanks for the memories!

  • One thing about the 744, I can tell a Pratt & Whitney by the sound, but can't tell the CF6 or RB-211 apart, but Pratt has that distinct roar during take off because I've been on PW powered 75's. The MD-80 is too narrow and cramped especially getting off a 767 in ATL changing onto an MD-88, but not noisy like the 727 which was one of my favorites. 737-200 has the best take off roar by far of any plane.
