"Genomic science has greatly enhanced our understanding of the biological world. It is enabling researchers to "read" the genetic code of organisms from all branches of life by sequencing the four letters that make up DNA. Sequencing genomes has now become routine, giving rise to thousands of genomes in the public databases. In essence, scientists are digitizing biology by converting the A, C, T, and G's of the chemical makeup of DNA into 1's and 0's in a computer. But can one reverse the process and start with 1's and 0's in a computer to define the characteristics of a living cell? We set out to answer this question."

@diogeneslaertius666 I wouldn't exactly call Venter a pawn, he's a millionaire who runs his own lab and more or less controls his own research direction, but I agree with the general sentiment that most of the best scientists and mathematicians of today are being sucked up by military or quantitative finance, at great detriment to medical and basic science research as well as the progression of society as a whole.

@PhilGalinsky this is not a critique of the science mind you, more a critique of culture and the extent to which intelligent men are essentially the pawns and puppets of ruthless and insane idiots who mean harm to people they have never met, nor have the capacity to quantify the value of.

@SMIshroomery321 If your going to call somebody evil, and you would like others to understand why it is that you believe that they are evil, you must first characterize and define the word evil. Then you must explain how the person whom you are labeling as evil fits that characterization. Else you have an argument without substance, and it is unlikely that anybody who reads your comment will take you seriously, or believe that you have considered the issue in its full scope.

They still had to inject it into an already existing cell.

So they intelligently designed the code in a computer...
