Learn how to sculpt hard surfaces inside of ZBrush from one of the guys behind ZBrush 3. Check out the workshop at the url below:
http://www.zbrushworkshops.com/sculpting-mp5k-product-page

This workshop showcases my new DEATH TO BOX MODELING workflow and is a fantastic blend of both artistic knowledge and technical know-how. This new workflow makes short work of hard surface objects like sub machine guns and pistols.

Learn to create realistic game props all the while staying inside of ZBrush 4!

  • thanks for the useful tutorial. I have a simple question. May i know how do you reposition the drawn rectangular mask around at 07.00 mins of the vid? thanks a bunch in advance.

  • @sotmuu To reposition the mask you press SPACEBAR while CTRL is still pressed. Then just move your cursor. :)

  • Its funny, your paving the way for the destruction of box modeling, but your instruction made me look at my own box modeling a whole new way, i.e to approach it with much more careful analysis and doing more in the premodeling phase, really helps. I dont intend to leave box modeling, I like it, but I have zbrush for sculpting and wanted to see some of the hardsurface work people are doing in it. Its incredible, I love it, but wouldnt some of this be a WHOLE lot easier in traditional box modeling

  • @XTheDentist Thanks for the comment. Box modeling is great. Its just an old technology. Wait till you see the next version of ZBrush, though. The hard surface stuff is getting another boost up. :)

  • What's the best Wacom? Cintiq 21" LCD?

  • Very nice, the real master teaches...

  • So can you make any weapon

  • Can you put images behind the model to use as a guide? You know, like you would put orthographic front, back, left, top, bottom images behind the model in max or maya to build your model over?

  • Great presentation, but some of your earlier comments bothered me. It seemed like you were talking down to artist still using other tools such as max/maya. "just focused on being an artist, that is my main goal in life" 0:40 . It's great that you get to work with one tool set, that is a dream come true for any artist. But this video didn't offer any suggestions to production artists on a practical way to use this tutorial. I will check out the workshop website in hopes that this is covered.

  • can anyone please help me when i zoom i click Alt together i scroll but i cannot zoom in or out help me please?is there a system to get keyboard shortcuts?

  • @rkingslien thanks a lot for the quick reply =)

  • So instead of cramming all the shapes in Shadowbox, you build each piece, combine mesh and then re-mesh etc?
