Marzieh is THE top female vocalist Iran has probably ever known. Others (Parisa and Googoosh, for instance) come extremely close indeed, but Marzieh has this certain undefinable something that sets her completely apart. Her unique voice, her immense talent, her incredible presence, her contagious passion and her sheer dedication have won her the title of "Queen Marzieh", "The Goddess of Music", "The Nightingale of Persia" and even, because of her political involvement and activism, "the Iranian Melina Mercouri" (a very famous artist in the West - actress, singer and politician who helped restore democracy in Greece after the military junta was finally ousted - whom I LOVED!) in the hearts of countless Iranians and non-Iranians alike. Since she had to leave Iran in 1994, she performed in many countries around the world, and continues to do so, even if she is now in her eighties! O_O

Of course, I do NOT understand ONE SINGLE word she's singing (alas!). But I know she NEVER, EVER sided with the monstrous theocracy now ruling over Iran since 1979 and that she is a feminist in her own right, so for me, her credentials are excellent! LOL! :P

I don't care either whether or not she was a supporter of the last Shah of Iran.

Here she is, in Paris, 4 years ago (she had just then turned 80!) performing one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! The first time I've listened to this song, I felt like I was in heaven! Khaily mamnoon, Marzieh! Enjoy! :D

P.S. : To know more about this great lady, here's an article about her dating back to 1995 :

  • @fraizer57 So what if she came from a low income family? Does coming from a low income family make her less human? BTW please don't be so aggressive towards people with different political beliefs than yourself. I truly believe we are in the mess we are in because we Iranians cannot respect each other. We would rather fight and criticize each other than unite and be strong. That is why the West is strong, while we in Iran are weak. So please try to work on your character, what you said is wrong.

  • Good riddance to a bad rubbish. She was a woman of a low income family. She owed her fame her success & achievements to the great Pahlavis who created the great opportunities for artists like her yet she was so dirty, mean & ungreatful that had to join the terrorist Islamic communist cults of MEK. May she rot in hell.
