I have bad knees, squatting or step up hurt really bad, what else can I do to tone my legs and buttocks?

What worked for me was a slow carb diet. I got cut pretty quick, and it was a mental thing because it taught me discipline with my diet, which that discipline was helpful in all areas of life.
Later I slowly integrated carbs back into my diet, and started a well rounded diet for more long-term dieting.
Avacados & Nuts were my savior!
