  • @Kukainis Libertarianism sounds a damn lot like Communism; wonderful in theory but not all that great in practice. Like communism, you rely far too much on the good nature of people. You think that people can be completely free of coercion and not act selfishly, driven by short-term aims.

If the Egyptians vote in the Islamists then it's bad for everybody. It'll hurt tourism and make the region more radical. The dictators were bad but what is come will be worse than the dictators.

  • @Kukainis But this is the free market, if they are doing what they want without government interference. They did it so that they could make money, how do free market libertarians plan on fighting that?

  • @tarantinoisahack

Somalia doesn't have a free market economy. That is the libertarian way, not the no government part. Government is just an obstacle you remove along the way...

And regarding Egypt, if the people willingly elect an Islamic force in power, then obviously they are not ready for a secular society and it would be wrong to impose one on them against their will.

  • @tarantinoisahack

so that there is no one to bribe, while libertarians want to increase the size of the government. All itdoes is create more bureaucracy (which costs even more money for tax payers in form of taxes or inflation) but the banks can still own the government. They can still bribe politicians and get them to do what they want...

  • @tarantinoisahack

Yes, banks own the government, you pointed that out very well. And because people who run the banks are greedy bastards (that's just the nature of man, you can't change that) they will eventually bribe any kind of government body to get what they want, be it softer regulatory terms or legislation (like SOPA for example). The difference between libertarians and liberals in general is the that libertarians want to kill the cause of the corruption.
