  • Yes, this was a very momentous moment--for the Tourists and Italians there who want to share the spectacle but these are the same people who never go to Church and hear mass. Italian and most European Churches are full of tourists gazing at the architectures and paintings while Churches in Latin America and the Philippines overflow with people to hear Mass

  • He said "habemus papam" which means "we have a pope". It is a traditional part of the inauguration-process.

  • Yes it is a rare chance to be an observant paticipant at such a moment. Wow. I was in St. Peters in 1982 for the Christmas day blessing of JPII, so I can well understand the moment, too.
