@TomHartill correct me if im wrong, but hasn't the british empire done some of the greatest damage on foreign cultures and land? and by brits i also mean americans, their offspring, wich both overreacted in using natural resources for their own comfort and gain. Imagine trying to move armies through dense untouched north american woods, filled with hundreds of thousands of battle ready natives..

@ajahamza TomHartill is reacting toward the focus on white brutality from his experience, as are you others reacting toward the opposite. TomHartill wants you to concede that every culture and race is capable of and have commited atrocities. The europeans were at this stage, I'd agree, comparatively moral. If the mohicans were in the power position, I'm sure damage would have been greater (eg mongol invasions). Also, colonialism and slavery is based on economic interests, racism is an effect.

Are you familar with Darwin theory? Non Europeans were colonialised because they were different race.

@TomHartill TheFrench - justified the maintenance of their colonial empire on the basis of their mission civilisatrice, their duty to bring civilization to the backward peoples of the world. The imposition of what is good for non whites by Western voices is racism. To suggest that non whites should culturally become more like Europeans is racism. To suggest that aspects of non white culture are regressive in the face of Western culture is racist This is why colonialism was based on race.

Spaniards in Americas - Indians entirely different origin; they were not human in the same sense, and that there was therefore no need to accord to them the same treatment as to one's fellow human beings = killing and plundering.
