Socrates's first exploration of a wheel

This is a short clip of Socrates ( hairless therapy rat, read profile as to what makes him a therapy rat) 's frist exploration of a wheel. He doesn't seem to want to go near it, not even with another banana chip being offered. Please rate, and comment on video. He's cute! I have a Wodent Wheel and one of my rats wouldn't go inside of it until he watched the younger ones play in it. Now he will at least sit inside but he doesn't run in it ha ha. It's neat how they can teach each other things.

@kittytreats Lol, isn't it? Rats truly are inteligent creates... some of God's best hanywork, and I don't say so myself? Lol. Post some videos of your rats, I'd love to see them; ok?

I totally agree with you on this ~SoulsChant13,  I cannot find a Wodent Wheel anywhere near me, and I've even looked online; sadly the larger sizes aren't available at the moment. And although, I wanted to see if Socrates would go near the wheel, only to grab a banana chip; you most believe me when I say this,"Trust me, I'd never let anything bad happen to him". The video was soulfully to record is reaction, cause he did the same thing ahead of time off camera. Thanks for your comment.

Rats are naturally neophobic. They're afraid of the new. I'd be afraid of that wheel, too. Wire wheels are NOT good for ratty tails and feet. They can get their tails or legs caught/pinched/ripped/crushed between the wheel crossbar and the stand.

"Wodent Wheels" are specifically made for and are safe for rats. Makes them feel more comfy. Also - just give a rat plenty of time to explore new things on their own - if you try to force it - it becomes bad to them.
