The Gray Haze Cripple is an excellent imitation of the fall Baetis or Blue-winged Olive mayflies on the Yellowstone, Gardner, Lamar, Madison, and other rivers in the Yellowstone region, which are more gray in color than the spring Baetis, which have an olive and dark gray coloration. The basic fly recipe given here can be changed with different thread, body, hackle, and wing colors to match any mayfly, while purple with an Adams-style mixed hackle makes an excellent attractor pattern. Recipe at www.parksflyshop.com/flytying.htm. A book with over fifty of our patterns is forthcoming.

  • A big baetis hatch on the Stillwater today. Good fly for the hatch.
