The horse featured in the video originally had a poultice applied using a plastic bag as a bandage. During the twenty-four hours between its application, and the video taken here, the plastic bag wore through and the clean environment was compromised.
The result was a thoroughly dirty hoof, that allowed for comprehensive footage of how to prepare a hoof for a poultice. The video navigates through the steps a professional farrier takes to debride(remove keratinous material) the hoof at the site of the abscess, and the subsequent cleaning via providine and chlorhexidine.

  • Excellent instructional video on cleaning horse hoof for puncture wound and abscess! Thank you so much!

  • Thanks for the compliment. Part two will be coming out on a smooth and proper application of poultice materials to the hoof. Check back on my channel. Do you have horses yourself?

  • Thank you for this video. Wow, that was outstanding information! Super helpful.

  • How did you get the horse to stand still for all that?

  • Yes, I have 3 Mustangs. Feared a puncture wound on one mare who has not been cooperative, but your videos have been a tremendous help in knowing what to do when she does cooperate. Great job!

  • Great instructional video. Thanks for the guide in helping me treat my horse's hoof.
