In the quest to create artificial human life, scientists have produced a living cell powered by manmade DNA. What is this new science? How will it work? And what are the long-term ramifications for humankind?

Shane Green is a Program Leader in Ethics with the McLaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health (MRC) where he is responsible for managing and delivering a comprehensive Ethics Program including advisory consultation and research activities.

Christina Agapakis is a fourth year graduate student at the Harvard Medical School studying synthetic biology in Pamela Silver's lab.

Gerry White is the Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster. He was Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences (2001-2007). He is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and Associate member of the Department of Chemistry. He is the founding director of the McMaster Antimicrobial Research Centre.

  • i personally in favour of discourse that actually has practical relation to human condition and "humanitarian" engagements instead of most of the useless celebrity dribble which takes place in primary media hubs..
