This is indeed the "studio" version (NOT the soundtrack), recorded on July 28, 1939- just before the film's release, three weeks later. No one had any idea at the time that this was going to be "Judy's Song", which was hers for the rest of her life [and beyond], and the one EVERYONE knows from the movie. At the time, MGM didn't have a record division {not until 1946}...and they finally issued a soundtrack LP in 1956.

@JohnnyGNV Oh, sorry. The way you phrased your first comment made it seem like you didn't know if Judy ever re-recorded this song for DECCA. My bad. Nice to know there is another Judy fan out there!

@thewzrdofoz Yes, thank you of course I realize and have known for years that this is a DECCA recorded version and of course not the original M-G-M filmed version. I was just wondering if the executives at M-G-M resented her recording for DECCA because after the mid-40's or so she didn't record for DECCA. I was also wondering if DECCA put out their own "cast" album of Songs from the Wizard of Oz and I see elsewhere here on You Tube that they indeed did. Thanks for your help.

@JohnnyGNV This is a re-recorded OZ song you are listening to now. This version is not the one in the film, it is a different version. Judy re-recorded it for DECCA and that is the video we are commenting on. Try listening to this one, then watching the scene from the movie, I think you'll notice differences. Even the musical underscoring is different :P

Is there any truth to the story that M-G-M resented the fact that DECCA was having Judy re-record her songs for ther label thus cutting into M-G-M profits? Was there a DECCA LP released of re-recorded OZ songs?
