I complained to my local government about them violating my rights under the Kentucky Constitution and the US Constitution, and them violating state law, but they didn't seem to care.
KRS 65.870 - Local Firearms Control Ordinances Prohibited
No city, county or urban-county government may occupy any part of the field of regulation of the transfer, ownership, possession, carrying or transportation of firearms, ammunition, or components of firearms or combination thereof.
The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) has a long history of ignoring this law and forcing citizens to compel them to obey the law, time and again. Given that lengthy history of repeatedly violating the law, it's difficult to conclude that this isn't a flagrant and willful violation of the state law that was specifically enacted to prevent them from doing exactly what they are repeatedly doing. Worse yet, the LFUCG is now no longer backing down when a citizen complains about them violating the law. They are now willfully, deliberately, and flagrantly violating our state law. None of us are allowed to pick and choose which laws we obey, and which laws we'll ignore, and the local government shouldn't be able to do that either. Their deliberate violation of our state law undermines the rule of law.
I suck at public speaking. I had much more to say, but they only allow three minute comments. I didn't cut off any discussion afterward. There was no discussion. Just a perfunctory thank you and goodbye.
After the council adjourned, I was approached by probably the only council member who isn't a raving anti-gun zealot, and I asked him if the council was likely to take action on this very actionable item (violating state law!) and he said they probably would not. I'll give them a reasonable amount of time to remove the metal detector to comply with state law, and then I'll probably talk with them for another three minutes and put the onus on them to obey the law.

Knowing how much you hate to be on film, I'm sure this was tough for you to talk in front of people and then post the video here. I don't think I could have done even half that good. Nice work.
