On March 12 2010 a vicious southerly front hit the RPNYC Business House Race Fleet on Wellington Harbour.

The fleet of 12 boats were spread between Falcon Shoal and Point Jerningham.

Matt Wood captured the moment the storm hit the fleet approximately 500 metres off Kau Bay.

  • Yeah, we had over 50 knots on the rescue boat, but were a bit busy to regularly check the wind instruments. A gust of 82knots was recorded near the harbour entrance, which was about 5 miles from where we were.

It was more wind than I have every experienced by a long way.

    Cheers
