@bbshannah - Apparently your knowledge of gerbils is limited. Gerbils thump for a number of reasons--for danger, when a male is excited (as is this case). I would greatly appreciate if you would do your research before commenting on the intelligence of someone you do not even know. Goodbye.

@squeakersquad - one of my gerbil's young children died, it was my fault. It was only approx. 4 days old girl. I checked how children have had it, but could not find one of them. She was drunken in the water for several hours. I picked her...up and started to cry inside like never before, I feel guilty in her death.

@TheElitedeath - Sometimes yes, thumping can be a sign of danger. Only gerbils really know the difference between a warning thump and an "excited" thump, as seen here.
