We just take our roundabouts for granted. Imagine how long this stretch of road would take if all these junctions were controlled by traffic lights!
Filmed in May 2007, driving north on A350 near Chippenham.

  • I can't believe I've got my driving test in chippenham in a few weeks time. aaahhh!!! too many roundabouts!!

  • @strecos Take care, and "break a leg", as they say!

  • @strecos hahaha I'm 16 (getting my drivers license in a month) and I live in Califonia in a desert town and the only roundabout I've seen for hundreds of miles is on our base. I've got nothing to worry about.. lmao as you for you've got a ton to worry about.. your roads are like 1/2 the size of ours and you've got crazy little things to deal with.. plus those cars on the side of the road. Just though I'd give you that awesome encouragement lol :)

  • @DemocraticTwang

    Your comments greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you think our roads are narrow, please have a look at some of our little country lanes on "Scary driving (nearly crashing?) near Bristol, England".

  • In America, we pull up to a roundabout and just stare at each other.

  • More eye-contact between road users must mean more safety! Take care.

  • I wish we had this many roundabouts in Canada...

  • Very good driving Sir! The worst situation I fear the most is when I am about to emerge onto a rounderbout, someone signals left at the last second and they cut across the front end of my car. For any learner that is having difficulty with rounderbouts, firstly make sure you get loads of practise. And secondly remember this rule: Speed, Vision, Decision. In other words, get the road speed off before deciding on the limit of vision, if you have good vision and can see a safe gap go. Thanks.

  • Its weird. There is a roundabout near my house and is operates with a national speed limit. there are 4 exits. 2 of which have a 30 mph limit and one is a dual carriageway. Its stupid because you have to 'Bomb' in on the roundabout then slow right down on most of the exits. But never the less, HAIL ROUNDABOUTS! :P

  • Living in Canada, I soooooo wish there were more roundabouts here. Would help traffic soooo damn much! At the very least I wish they'd put them on side streets where 99% of the time there's no traffic to speak of, yet we're forced to stop and every damn stop sign regardless. Waste of time and waste of gas. >_>

  • This road is satisfying when you don't have to stop at any of them.

  • @ab9900 Most of ours are on sensors during the daytime, at night they switch over to timed.

  • Right now we have the weirdest roundabout probably in the world. A square roundabout with a traffic light. the sidewalks are follow a circular pattern the road it's self is marked in a circular pattern. but the remains of the (still in service) traffic light is what we have to follow.

  • driving on the left would mess me up so much

  • @localdriver Ha yeah I've seen thoughs pretty scary eh?
