Re-rack King Mark Selby Defines The Meaning Of Poor Sportsmanship For Snooker Fans

For all those viewers who think I am biased against Mark Selby - I am not. He has demonstrated time and time again lack of sportsmanship and this is just another piece of supporting evidence.

Firstly, Selby gets a fortunate full ball kiss on the yellow after a failed pot which saves him from a difficult snooker behind the green. I have no problem with the good fortune, good for him. Then, John Higgins plays a safety shot which nearly goes in-off but settles on the jaws. From behind, Selby throws a towel in the air.

Apart from being a childish gesture, what exactly is the meaning of that? He wishes John to go in-off? So, its ok for him to get the rub of the green but not John Higgins? This is frankly, something the noisy, boisterous, arrogant player down at your local club whom everybody dislikes playing, does -- not a top class player who is now No.1 in the world.

Very unsportsmanlike conduct from this muppet. This guy is the No.1 player in snooker? -- what a horrible ambassador for the sport.

sure, nobody is disagreeing with that point. the point is snooker is a gentleman's game with rules that are fairly loose due to reliance on player etiquette. when players like mark selby use the loopholes in these rules to "game" other players, that's the issue these videos are pointing to.

plus, this video is not really about the re-racks - its about his unsportsmanlike conduct in throwing the towel in the air.

surely, you don't advocate this kind of behavior?

to add to my point and in support of this uploader's position, i'd like to state my position that selby is a top player in terms of break building and safety caliber, hes got all the right tools to win matches. but it seems like it's after 2007 season there's a hihghly significant number of occasions in which selby utilizes this tactic, even though there's absolutely no need to resort to touchy touchy game when there's clearly another way out, regardless of its successfulness.

Selby got a lucky shot which made it difficult for Higgins and when Higgins got lucky not to have dropped the white, he threw the towel as if to say "u lucky bastard". The only good thing is Higgins didn't see Selby throw the towel, which i believe might have annoyed him and could have have had an effect on his game...

@giulienk Snooker favours defense players like Selby, they just wait for mistakes or annoyance off opponent from their 100 defence shots, often very simple defence.
