  • If you can find any of the history on here, I'd like to see a segment on Shotokan throws.

Further, how closely were techniques like these related to the old Okinawa-te?

  • @bluecollarcanuck The throws in kudo are influenced by judo techniques but adapted for striking setting. As I understand it, most old okinawan karate throws are more basic and crude. Think basic judo throws with fewer variations.

The difference is not so much in basic technique as in degrees of refining.

Most of what is seen here can be found in old okinawan te (it can certainly be found as bunkai) - in cruder formats. continued....

  • @bluecollarcanuck As for shotokan throws see youtube vid v=Ndz_71vTsiU

The throws there seem more inspired by aikido than by judo -longer ranges, more wrist throws etc.as opposed to kudos body-to-body and hip throws. But both judo and aikido are refined specialized version of jujutsu.

I think this is just a reflection of the ranges shotokan usually competes with.

In oldschool bunkai you find plenty of throws similar to both kudo and shotokan throws if you know where to look
